Editorial/Description:

Amazon.com: Oscar Peterson and his six-piece combo are all business on Peterson's 1995 Christmas recording, extolling the virtues of Peterson's intelligent and seductive keyboard work as well as those of his knowing sidemen. The result is a triumphant set of 14 standards showcasing the group's intricate interplay and tasty individual solos. The ensemble's instrument mix--a discreet blend of vibes, flügelhorn, guitar, bass, drums, and piano--adds splashes of color and shading on classics such as "Let It Snow" when you least expect it. Plus, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more knowing pianist. Peterson can be as sentimental as anyone , for example, on "White Christmas," while also slowing a down-tempo melody even more to create an intoxicating vista. With ensemble pieces led by one of jazz's living legends, Oscar's refined holiday record lacks only a yule log and a nice, smooth merlot. --Martin Keller

This is my favorite Christmas album. The songs are perfectly chosen, and the arrangements are beautiful. I listen to it over and over and never get tired of it.

For years I've been listening to Oscar Peterson's tape of his Xmas music and now I've found it on a CD. I'm delighted to have it to savor for all the Christmases to come! the quality is exceptional and the music sets my holiday mood perfectly.Dancing Mama

Oscar at his best!   January 8, 2008
I have many Oscar Peterson CD's but had not heard this one till a CBC recent broadcast. It is a lovely assortment of holiday music, quintessentially Oscar.

My favorite Christmas album EVER!   January 1, 2008
This album is first rate. The mixing and tone are terrific. Oscar Peterson's talent fills my soul. I love all of the songs on the CD, and his arrangements and choice of musicans are superb. Very smooth and sophisticated classic jazz. Mr. Peterson brilliantly stays close enough to the melody throughout each tune providing maximum enjoyment to both lovers of jazz, and folks who are not lovers of traditional jazz.

I feel it's one of the very best Christmas albums ever recorded, and I recommend it highly.

It is especially meaningful right now since we just lost the inimitable Oscar Peterson. He truly was a gift to lovers of music. I will miss him very much, and I'm so grateful that his music lives on.

" The Christmas Waltz" is worth price of the CD alone!   December 19, 2007
There is something about a slow, well-executed jazz waltz that gets under your skin and into your soul. perhaps the natural sway of three-quarter time? Oscar and his pals do that effortlessly with his version of the Christmas Waltz. Its bound to make your heart leap......This is a wonderful, introspective CD that is masterfully understated. It will take your mind to a quieter, simpler place of falling snow, blazing fireplaces, twinkling lights ...all the inner joys of Christmas that we dream of recapturing each season...Oscar's playing is subtle here, as virtuoso as ever, but with a peace and grace that always shows respect for the music he is playing.... very fitting for the range of emotions we feel this time of year. You can't go wrong with this one, even if, like me, you like jazz but don't worship its excesses. PS: make sure you get around to hearing the last track- Oscar's solo version of O Christmas Tree is beautifully played and recorded- just pristine. You really appreciate his subtle genius- particularly now that he is gone.
