Editorial/Description:

Amazon.com Review: Safe in the oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher, Pyrex is a special glass that withstands the shock of going from hot to cold, or vice versa, without breaking. That's important even with this set of liquid measuring cups, which can go into the oven to, say, warm a sauce and then be plunged into dishwater. The set consists of three measuring cups: a 1-cup, a 2-cup, and a 4-cup, all essential to a well-equipped kitchen. Large, dark blue markings in both U.S. and metric measurements make the cups easy to read. The cups are nonreactive (useful for acidic salad dressings) as well as stain- and odor-proof, and come with a two-year warranty against breakage from oven heat. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews:

As expected   August 23, 2007
They were exactly as expected. I'd have given them 5 stars except measuring cups just aren't that exciting ;^j

Contrary to popular belief (15 of 15 Found this Helpful)   August 5, 2007
Pyrex is only a trade name ONLY now, licensed out to World Kitchen. It is NOT the original invention from 1915 that we all remember. It is NOT Pyrex BOROSILICATE glass anymore (after 1998). It is NOT safe to plunge into ice cold water from boiling oven anymore. It's also heavier because it's NOT PYREX anymore! After 1998, when Corning Glass stopped making Pyrex. (Think fiberoptics and bankruptcy, etc.) They sold off their 'household' glassmaking and it reformed as World Kitchen. PYREX is borosilicate glass and very resistant to wear and chip and cracking due to exposure to heat or quick changes in temperature. This is why Pyrex and Kimax and other borosilicate glasses are used for chemistry glassware. (Timex was to watches as these were to chemlabware! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!) Corning has licensed the name of 'Pyrex' to World Kitchen, but nothing else about it is 'corning glass'. (As an aside - Corning made/makes great glass - of all kinds. A world-beater in their day. Management screwed them over going down the wrong economic road. Do check out their lovely glass museum in Corning, NY!) NOW, World Kitchen makes their 'pyrex' measuring cups out of ordinary soda-lime glass (kitchen drinking glass type). This is NOT safe to expose to heat changes!!!! (Think wear safety goggles - like you WERE working in a CHEM LAB!) I suspect that soda-lime glass is denser than borosilicate, but the actual measure wall thickness may be different now than before, and, thus, this accounts for some of the weight difference. If you want my opinion - find 'vintage' Pyrex Measuring Cups somehow and they will last multiple lifetimes. I have one of my mom's and she has two of her mom's measures. My new ones cannot hold a candle to the old ones (30 to 60 years old) and aren't worth a tinker's damn. Happy times in the kitchen!

makes life easier (1 of 1 Found this Helpful)   April 4, 2007
having these makes my kitchen time SO much easier! now that i'm used to having them i can't imagine just having one plastic one like i used to. the variety of different sizes is fantastic. non-porous equals extremely easy to clean, even with greasy stuff. the bigger one is nice for mixing dry ingredients and adding to other things. i also prefer the blue writing to the red.

Love it (6 of 6 Found this Helpful)   January 10, 2007
This is a great set. The best part is that they will nest inside each other for easy storage. I was hesitant about getting them, thinking I would have to store each one separately since they are glass and with handles. But, they fit nicely inside each other with the handles hanging over the edge.

Great buy.

Indispensable (10 of 10 Found this Helpful)   November 2, 2001
Here's a really important piece of food prep equipment. I spend a lot of time winging it when I cook, but when I do have to measure my ingredients, I love these clear Pyrex cups in three tremendously useful sizes. They're heavy, but they're safe for boiling liquids, ice cold food and everything in between. Pyrex is crystal clear and cleans up beautifully. You can't ask for more.
