Amazon.com: When three thirtysomething friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Vince Vaughn) decide to form a fraternity, it's supposedly to save Wilson from losing his house, which the nearby college is trying to claim for academic purposes. But really, Ferrell and Vaughn are desperate to return to the reckless, feckless days of beer bongs and hot chicks, and they drag Wilson along with them as they throw themselves into gathering frat pledges of all ages. Old School could have been just another string of bad jokes hanging on a flimsy plot, but the script and the cast have a jovial energy and just enough grounding in reality--at least, up until the obligatory beat-the-system ending, but by that point you'll forgive the excesses of this silly, cheerful, and frequently funny movie. Featuring Jeremy Piven and Juliette Lewis, with cameos by Snoop Dog, Andy Dick, and others. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:

A modern classic! You're my boy, blue!   September 28, 2008
I don't think there is enough space in this review window to do this movie justice! This is the movie that helped launch the careers of such celebrated comedians like Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn! And man do they earn their honors with this movie! I think one of the things that makes this movie so widely loved is that it identifies with college students as well as people in their later 20s and 30s.

There are so much LOL moments in this that you'll barely have time to catch a breath. This is a worthy DVD buy because this movie has LOTS of rewatchability (is that even a real word????). You and your friends will get lots of mileage out of this one. And the nudity doesn't hurt either!

At First I Hated It, But Then... (1 of 1 Found this Helpful)   August 12, 2008
...I watched it a second time. And a third time. And I continue to watch it, and it seemingly becomes funnier each time.

It's easy to find fault with "Old School": Will Ferrel's character doesn't have a job, as far as I can tell. Mitch-a-pa-looza, a giant house party for Luke Wilson, occurs on a Friday night...yet both Luke Wilson and his high school hook-up are at work and school the next day as if it's a weekday. The homages to "Fight Club" border on rip-offs. And the list goes on.

However, it doesn't matter. Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughan, and Will Ferrel are a comedic dream team. The laughs never stop, so the plot inconsistencies and lack of originality will never really bother you (unless you let them). Check your brain at the door and watch "Old School."

Loveit!!! (1 of 1 Found this Helpful)   March 29, 2008
Since I'm not only a fraternity man, but I help start the chapter at my school, I totally relate to humor in this film. We never did anything as extreme as what is presented in the film, but that's what Hollywood does. They take things that are kinda interesting, beef them up, and entertain you for an hour and a half.
Will Ferrell is great, Vince Vaughn is hilarious, and Luke Wilson's subtle wit shines.
This is a must have for any movie collection!!!
