Editorial/Description:Description: Extend The Chronicles of Riddick experience with this all-new, visionary animated film that bridges the incredible stories of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick . Starring Vin Diesel as the voice and likeness of Riddick and created by Peter Chung (The Animatrix, MTV's "Aeon Flux"), one of the world's most revered animators, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury delivers thrilling sci-fi adventure that takes Riddick, Jack and Imam on a death-defying confrontation with an intergalactic bounty hunter. Amazon.com: Taking a page from The Animatrix, Dark Fury is part of a new trend of bridging theatrical sequels. As an official product of a franchise, the 35-minute anime benefits from having the original actors voice the characters, including Vin Diesel as Riddick. This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors of Pitch Black already caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread. The sinewy leader has a unique--and creepy--jail for master villains and she has her sights set on Riddick. The film--indeed the series--is indebted to animator Peter Chung, who brings his techno style from his Aeon Flux series. His smooth animation for Riddick doesn't reinvent the character as much as give him a new, appealing fluidity. As anime goes, there's nothing really new here--plenty of action, cool killers, and dramatic spurts of blood--but it's a building block for how this genre might enliven movie series and sequels in the future. --Doug Thomas

Essential Part Of The Riddick Series

"Pitch Black"/"Chronicles Of Riddick" fans, do NOT pass this one up just because of its short running time and animated nature! A gem of the Asian style of animation, this underseen chapter covers events between "Pitch Black" and "Chronicles", picking up almost immediately after the former. Tells a more compact tale, meaning the apprx. 30-minute running time is not a hindrance (although if you want to talk price, then yeah, it could be argued that it should be a little less expensive for its brevity. Makes up for it by being just plain better than most 2-hour entries in the Action/Sci-Fi field). The ship carrying the first movie's survivors is picked up by what at first appears to be just another merc ship but turns out to have a much weirder, more original, and more interesting nature; also brings into play some visually astounding alien lifeforms.
Eclipses "Chronicles Of Riddick" and equals, perhaps surpasses "Pitch Black" A must for fans of the series or of such animated fare as "The Animatrix", "Galerians: Rion" or "Blood: The Last Vampire".
Interesting sidenote: this isn't star Vin Diesel's first foray into animation. Also check out the more child-friendly and seriously under-appreciated "Iron Giant" from 1999, where Diesel voices the title character.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury begins immediately after the Pitch Black story and is filmed in the style of "The Animatrix". Excellent story and excellent animation. I hope more of this series continue to come out.
Pitch Black the morning after

Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury: 5/10: At 30 minutes this stand alone short resembles a Saturday morning cartoon rather than a plot bridge between Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. (And Lord knows if any movie needed a plot bridge it is Chronicles of Riddick). The animation is mixed bag with a lot of the 3D spaceship work leaving a bit to be desire (to shiny for one thing). And while the voice work is authentic, the story is true one off throwaway. (Hammy and very unlikely villains happen to pop by). The DVD doesn't really work as a stand alone product. It would however made a fine second or third disk in the Chronicles of Riddick or even Pitch Black DVD release.
Animated Short Riddick Movie

Got the three Riddick movies as a gift and watched all three over the weekend. I can't believe I liked them so well. In this cartoon segment of the Riddick saga, Riddick, Jack, and Imam end up on a ship conveniently owned by a collector of master criminals (a female) who is anxious to add Riddick to her collection. (She freezes her victims but they are still alive.) I remember this storyline from a Star Trek when a collector tried to collect Data. This reused storyline still worked well for this, particularly because this was so short. I think it would have been a mistake to make this longer. It was just the right length to hold my interest. The animation is interesting in this, very stylized and unique.
An aquired taste.

If you are a fan of the Riddick movies then you will like this, if not you should rent befor you buy. The problems with the movie is that it is very short, only about 38min. The art form changes, characters will be normal then some features will be exagerated in the next clip. Also this movie contains explicit violence and is not suitable for kids.
