Customer Reviews:

This Bag Rocks!   December 17, 2008
After owning the Powerline series, I decided to step up to the XXL. I shopped around and ended up at Amazon. I bought the item for $230, used the super-saver free shipping, and opened an Amazon Visa which brought the price down to $200. I jumped on this price because I would have had to pay $240 for the same product from a martial arts distributor given a wholesale price, tax and shipping. Even with the super-saver the bag shipped in a week's time.

When I received the item, one of the two boxes was damaged and the retaining lock nut was missing. I called Century and told them the story and they promptly sent a replacement lock nut free of charge that arrived three days later. I filled the base with water and set the bag up on a rubber workout mat and was in business.

The XXL is definitely a step-up over the Powerline because you do not need to adjust the bag at all. The bag rocks slightly in the base when hit and gives you a little extra energy absorbtion so the base does not move on the ground quite as much as the regular Wavemaster. The bag is comfortable enough that I do not need to use gloves or wraps although I would recommend them to a novice. The bag can take some punishment as well. Front kicks, side kicks, roundhouses, hook kicks, etc. all land solidly and the bag takes it without falling over like the lesser model. I put a few scuffs on the bag with my sneakers but that just gives this bag a little character. If it is anything like Century's other bags, it will be around for a long time.

Tips for water filling, and why the XXL (1 of 1 Found this Helpful)   November 25, 2008
I put a big pot in the sink and turned on the sink to have water constantly flowing into it. From there I scooped the water out with a 2-quart sauce pan into the base using a normal size funnel--not especially large. It took me just 15 minutes of scooping to completely fill it.
I think they've changed the padding material since some of the other reviews. Mine is harder than the ones at my martial arts studio and the padding is a different color, white as opposed to gray foam, and seems more plastic based now instead of rubber based.
The studio I go to has both the XXL and the original. If sizes haven't changed since those were made, the XXL not only has a much larger strike area vertically, but it's also much bigger around. Seeing the two side by side at the studio convinced me to go with the bigger one because the size and proportion of the thing just tease you to lay into it. The smaller "original" won't stimulate much as an imaginary opponent, though it did seem solid enough to take hard blows like the XXL for people who want to spend less money and have something a lot smaller.

Great Product (1 of 1 Found this Helpful)   November 24, 2008
i chose this product because it was the one i used at the gym and figured i could do the same thing at home for a lot less expensive. i even told my weight loss doc about it and before i even told him the one i bought he mentioned that wavemaster was the best, and then when i told him that one was the one i bought, he was excited to see my results after using it.

Great product   September 2, 2008
I am unable to hang a heavy bag anywhere in my house so I decided to purchase a wavemaster training bag. At first I had doubts because I thought it would tip right over but it proved me wrong. After filling the base with water it proved to be both stable and resistant. The only complaint I have is that it tends to move around during my workout but I compensate by circling the bag and hitting from all sides.

Only a 1-year limited warranty, Keep your receipt. (3 of 3 Found this Helpful)   August 22, 2008
I could write a very detailed review, but there's plenty of those here. What I do want to touch on however, is the durability of the base (which holds the water).

I've owned a wavemaster, and after a long hard summer of daily annihilation to it, the base finally started leaking water around the pressure area (the area that bends when you punch/kick it). It effectively rendered it quite useless since it's not something I could just "patch up" being in the area that is constantly bending and shifting when I hit the bag.

This is why they only give a 1 year limited warranty. I had mine longer than that, so I knew my chances of getting any kind of assistance or replacement were just about zero. It's a bit sad though considering how much this costs. I'd buy another one if I felt I'd get more than a year out of it, but I'm not that confident.

For someone that will only use this occasionally and / or hits very light, maybe it won't break as quickly.
