WD products are short lived

I purchased this item a 1 year and 2 months ago. Right after the 1 year warranty expired....so did the Hard drive. Customer service would have cost me $41.00 to talk to a representative so I had to go to their website. I downloaded and tried all their programs...only to return with error messages. I will not be buying another Western Digital product again.

I hooked this drive up to my computer last night in a matter of minutes. To date, it's worked beautifully. I'm very pleased with this product.

Doing good so far. Drive is very small so it doesn't take up much space.

This does the job. The most attractive feature of the hard drive is the price.
It is surprisingly loud however, and does need an external power supply.
Overall, glad I got it. Right now I am using it to hold my iTunes library, and will soon buy a smaller / quieter / usb-powered one and phase this one into archiving my backups.

The HD itself is nice but the case causes the drive to sleep and often does not wake back up. This causes endless hangups any time my system needs to access a file on there. I've already downloaded firmware updates and they helped a little, but not enough.
